Foundations
Foundations are an easy-to-use, all-over coverage glaze designed for base coating on bisque. Used as a building block for surface decoration, Foundations glazes were created with the needs of contemporary studios in mind and are available in a broad assortment of colors, opacities and textures.
They are perfect for any studio whether it is in a retail space, home or school because they are easy to apply, consistent in firing performance and cost efficient. Foundations glazes are certified AP non-toxic and food safe.
Additional Characteristics:
- Base coats produced by Foundations are stable and will not move during firing
- Quick drying for quicker handling and decoration as well as same day firing
- Intermixable for custom color creation
- Can be applied to greenware or leather-hard clay. It is recommended to leave an area unglazed such as the back or bottom to allow outgassing during firing
- Many Foundations colors can be fired to higher temperatures and maintain their color. Check individual color label for performance at cone 6
- Foundations will not dissolve or “pick up” previous coats of glaze
- The high gloss finish means your pieces do not need clear glazed (except Foundations Matte if desired)
General Use / Application
Foundations glazes were designed to mature at shelf cone 06/05. Shake glaze container for 5-6 seconds before use. Apply 2-3 coats, allowing surface to dry in-between coats. When applying to a large surface, using a broad, soft brush such as a soft fan brush is recommended. Applying each coat in the same direction after fully saturating (or loading) your brush is also recommended. Be sure the glaze has dried thoroughly prior to firing. A medium ramp/firing rate is recommended (250°F per hour).
