Father's Day Banner Mug

Directions

Celebrate Dad with a mug all his own! This Duncan Banner Mug is perfect for creating a special message he can enjoy every time he has a cup of joe.

1. Wipe mug with a damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
2. Pour some Pure Brilliance into mug and swirl and rotate mug to cover entire inside of mug. Pour out any remaining glaze and wipe away any drips with a damp sponge.
3. Cut a small piece of contact paper to fit across the banner area of mug to protect while applying color. Remove backing and press firmly in place, sealing all edges.
4. Dilute some Dark Sapphire with water to create a watercolor consistency.
5. Make a few loose random strokes in a dripping style down from top edge of mug and up from bottom of mug with diluted color. Let dry.
6. Dip brush into undiluted Dark Sapphire and make bold strokes over a lot of the wash areas, leaving some of the wash areas showing. Brush onto handle as well. Let dry and brush two more coats over the dark areas and handle, letting dry in between coats.
7. Remove contact paper from label.
8. Use a pencil to lightly freehand “DAD” and then “EST.” and whatever year desired. Or, use a letter stencil to trace.
9. Use the No. 1 Liner to brush three coats of Dark Sapphire over lettering. Let dry.
10. If desired, use some of the diluted Dark Sapphire and brush lines down curved areas of banner to add dimension. Let dry.
11. Brush two coats of Pure Brilliance onto banner, light wash areas and exposed bisque on mug. Brush one light coat over areas with full coverage of Dark Sapphire. Let dry completely.
12. Stilt and fire to cone 06.
